A feast of events at Brisbane Campus
Brisbane students had the opportunity to get up close and personal with some native animals. Smooch the red-tailed black cockatoo got friendly with students and staff and some very brave people held the snakes and lizards.
The campus celebrated the Chinese New Year at the beginning of February with a big gathering of students and staff, the eating of symbolic foods and display of festive decorations - all focused on bringing good luck for the New Year and celebrating the Year of the Tiger.
Food is an important part of Chinese New Year celebrations and the Brisbane students enjoyed unique tastes and flavours of beef and black bean sauce, spring rolls, fried rice and prawn crackers.
They also learnt about the traditions, origins of Chinese Zodiac, customs and rituals pertaining to Chinese New Year through an interesting talk from student Olivia Woo. Liping Hao, another Chinese student, demonstrated traditional skills in paper-cutting and lantern making, 2 forms of decoration widely used during Chinese New Year. The celebration concluded with the giving of hongbao (red envelope with money), symbolising luck and wealth.
Term 3 concluded with a Multicultural Dinner at the Pancake Cafe. Students and staff enjoyed lots of pancakes and conversations to recognise this milestone.
