The Postgraduate Student Organisation (PSO) and International Student Alliance (ISA), with active support from CQU Student Association; recently organised a conference to educate students about exam preparation, plagiarism, overseas health cover and immigration.
Students were pleased with the guidance provided by Mary Agar Wilson and Roslyn McCarthy (both from Student Services) in relation to exam procedures.
The complex issue of plagiarism was clarified by Robyn Alcock.
The afternoon session also included a presentation by Aristotle Paipetis, Immigration lawyer and Barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, on immigration prospects for international students under new rules promoting development of regional areas.
He detailed options for students completing different types of degrees and coming from various nationalities.
Mr Paipetis suggested that seeking sponsorship from regional employers and matching skills with regional requirements is an attractive option for students.
Representatives of the Worldcare Assist, a leading health-cover provider in Australia, came from Sydney and described their services.
