Dick MacNevin - Companion of the University

Dick MacNevin, as one of Central Queensland's most prominent and respected identities, has given a lifetime of service to the community.

After completing primary school, Dick worked in a variety of jobs before successfully undertaking an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic.  A successful entrepreneur and business owner, Dick established and ran a number of successful medium scale business operations with a motor industry focus.  After initially operating a garage, he then went on to become a motor dealer in the Central Queensland area for the next 40 years.  He was known as a businessman with high standards of fairness, honesty and integrity in an industry where such standards were sometimes lacking.

Besides his business involvement, Dick has played a major philanthropic role and has been a supporter and benefactor of many charitable and community-based organisations.  His contributions, in the form of time, expertise and financial support have benefited many charitable and community organisations, including the Queensland Cancer Fund, Salvation Army and Endeavour Foundation, to name a few.

Dick's involvement with the University includes membership of the Rockhampton Campus Advisory Committee as well as being an Honorary Founding Fellow of the CQU Foundation and serving on the Board of Directors of the CQU Foundation from 1996 to 1999.  He used his strong industry connections to gain wider support for the institution from business and industry.  As Chair of the local Council of Technical and Further Education, Dick was able to help shape the TAFE course offerings to ensure relevancy and appropriateness to the needs of the University.

In recognition of his outstanding community contributions, Dick was presented with a Rockhampton City Council Australia Day Citizenship Award in 1995 and a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2006.
