Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQU reps' 'fruitful' visit to Near Infra-red Spectroscopy event 

Three CQU representatives were awarded when they attended the recent Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) - Near Infra-red Spectroscopy Group conference in Hamilton, Victoria, during April.

CQU postgraduate student Ria Reyes took out a student award, postdoctoral fellow Phul Subedi took out the best poster award and Professor Kerry Walsh was presented with the overall award.

This overall award was the Lynsey Ann Welsh Award for Innovation in NIR Science (for a presentation based on work involving colleagues M. Mukarev and D. Chen).

Professor Walsh is Associate Dean, College of Sciences and Deputy Director, Centre for Plant and Water Science. His awarded project was titled 'Exploring Chemometric Approaches used wtih SWNIR Instruments in Estimation of Fruit Quality'.

Mr Subedi's award was for his poster, in conjunction with Professor Walsh, on 'Handheld SW-NIR Spectrometer and the Australian Mango Industry'.

CQU Rockhampton hosted the equivalent event during 2006.
