CQU researcher advances Indigenous palliative care

A Brisbane-based CQU researcher, Dr Pam McGrath, has helped develop a new palliative care model for Indigenous communities, after studying the delivery of services in the Northern Territory.

PhotoID:1648 According to ABC Online, the National Health and Medical Research Council funded the two-year project, which audited the services provided by the Territory Health Department and non-government organisations.

Principal investigator Dr McGrath says the model is based on several principles, including respect for Indigenous people, non-judgmental care and an emphasis on living.

She says palliative care workers in Indigenous communities are already starting to ask for copies of the model.
