Lecturer invited to leave wound management audience in stitches

CQU nursing academic Kerry Reid-Searl recently received a prestigious invitation from one of Australia's leading experts in wound management.

Dr Keryln Carville invited Ms Reid-Searl to the Inagural Australian 'Silver' Symposium in Perth this week.

Ms Reid-Searl's role was to contribute a major part of the closing session on Wednesday (September 7).

During the close, experts such as Dr Fiona Wood (Australian of the Year) and other high-profile international speakers came together as an expert panel to consider a consensus of opinion on the use of silver in wound management.

Ms Reid-Seal was invited to be part of the panel in her character role as 'Iva Sore'.

The CQU academic teaches wound management and uses this 'alter ego' Iva to get students and participants to understand wound management, particularly wound assessment.

Dr Carville invited Ms Reid-Searl to bring a consumer's perspective and bring a sense of humour to this significant event.

Head of Nursing & Health Studies Dr Lorna Moxham said: "This is a great accolade and fantastic recognition for a great teacher".

"It showcased Nursing and CQU. We should be very proud of Kerry who has contributed in an outstanding way to Nursing this year in teaching and now at a major research conference in wound management."
