Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Lecturer appointed to Cardiovascular Nurses Working Party 

CQU lectuer Sonja Cleary has been appointed to the Cardiovascular Nurses Working Party, a national body affiliated with the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ).

Ms Cleary, based at CQU Bundaberg, is an undergraduate course coordinator and Masters of Clinical Nursing Coordinator for the streams of Cardiac, Catheter Laboratory and Perioperative.

The working party will, among other things, provide expert knowledge, advice and information to CSANZ Council on matters relevant to research, education and nursing issues; initiate and/or coordinate specific studies or investigations into matters relevant to research; and further develop personal expertise and knowledge in the field through involvement with the working party and by liaison with experts in other areas of nursing.

Aims of the working party include to develop and grow the speciality of cardiovascular nursing within the CSANZ; to promote and organise education for cardiac nurses; and to gather and exchange information regarding research and nursing activities through national and international networking.

Meanwhile, Trudy Dwyer from CQU's School of Nursing & Health Studies has been appointed to the Banana Shire district strategic planning committee.
