CQU Bundaberg to host Focus on Corals

CQU Bundaberg will host a conference for researchers, planners, resource managers, educators and marine tourism businesses on the weekend of April 16-17.

The event is presented by CQU, University of Queensland and the CRC for Sustainable Tourism.

Coral reefs require urgent attention if they are to be enjoyed by future generations. There are many threats to reefs, and coral bleaching is particularly concerning because it is a worldwide phenomenon that is occurring with increasing frequency and severity, often causing coral death.

Participants can learn about a simple coral monitoring technique, developed by the University of Queensland, and how it might be used to monitor our own local fringing reefs. They can learn how many of Queensland’s coral reefs are being studied and managed.
