Students encouraged to 'stress less' at Uni

Students are being encouraged to take part in Stress Less Week during their final weeks of term at CQU.

CQU will reinforce the Stress Less Week message with free campus activities in Bundaberg (Monday, September 25), Mackay (Tuesday, September 26), Gladstone (Thursday, September 28) and Rockhampton (October 2-3).

PhotoID:3380 Common activities at these campuses include a healthy lunch, neck and shoulders massage and a workshop on relaxation and coping strategies. Mackay Campus will also offer irridology consulations, meditation sessions and live entertainment. CQU Rockhampton will also offer irridology consultations, meditation sessions and an African drumming and body percussion workshop.

Every Stress Less Week attendee will be equipped with a take-home bag containing various resources to help them unwind.

CQU Student Services spokesperson Shuron Billman said CQU had enthusiastically adopted the nationwide Healthier Universities Program, which aims to promote adoption of healthier behaviours among university students.

"It addresses a range of lifestyle factors experienced by young people including but not limited to: nutrition, alcohol, smoking, physical activity, and mental health," she said.

"The Stress Less Week has been specifically designed for university students during their final weeks of term which is generally known as a challenging and demanding time of the academic year.

"This event aims to bring the students' attention to the need to relax, have fun and reduce the stress in their lives".
