Jordan shows drive for promising transport career

Civil Engineering student Jordan McClure is yet to graduate but she's already tasted academic success, got her teeth into real-world projects and has a firm job offer.

She stood out recently by earning three student award prizes for academic excellence; the ASI Undergraduate Steel Design Prize, the Porters Engineering Prize and the RACQ Prize.

Many of CQUniversity's Engineering students complete a 'Co-op' degree program enabling paid work placements within a relevant industry.

Jordan has worked for the Department of Transport and Main Roads in her home town of Mackay for both of her 'industry' placements as she has a scholarship with the Department. As part of the scholarship, she has already secured a graduate position with the Department in Mackay.

Thanks to the industry placements and the practical focus of her degree, Jordan has already worked on a range of real-world projects including a Traffic Efficiency and Safety Analysis of the Mackay - Slade Point Road and Safety Improvement of the Gladstone - Mt Larcom Road.

"Both of these projects relate to the transportation and traffic engineering roles I will be working within during the graduate program at the Department of Transport and Main Roads," she says.

Jordan was based at Mackay Campus for the first two years of her degree, before moving to Rockhampton Campus for the final 2.5 years.
