Graduate continues to 'Clinch' stage roles

There has been little down time since graduation 5 years ago for Music Theatre graduate Julianne Clinch.

Although she has travelled plenty, since her time in Mackay, she has lived mostly in Brisbane and London, performing in a number of Brisbane-based productions like Rent! (Starlight), Parade (Warehaus), Anything Goes (QMT), Children of Eden (Harvest Rain Theatre Company), Witches of Eastwick (Turkish Delight), Scissors Paper Rock! (Underground Productions), Not Fade Away (Underground Productions) and Oedipussy: The Spy Who Shagged Her Dad (Underground Productions).

While in London she also performed in 2 musical theatre revues and a pantomime tour of Dick Whittington and his Cat in the role of Dick Whittington.

She has also just finished playing in Oscar Wilde's witty An Ideal Husband and has begun rehearsals on a series of short plays called Prodigal

"It [An Ideal Husband] was a wonderful experience to work on my acting skills and my British accent," Julianne explained.

Her current project, Prodigal is being produced by Somerset Mills, a new Brisbane-based production company.

"I am excited to be working on this as I get to develop (and originate) 2 roles in 2 different ways. I think the producers have amazing vision for the future of Brisbane theatre."

The plays will be performed at the Cement Box Theatre at the University of Queensland in April.

While performing, Julianne is also working in the industry behind the scenes. She teaches singing, dance and drama to children at a well known after-school performing arts training school, Fame Theatre Company.

She is currently undertaking a Diploma of Musical Theatre and Commercial Dance at Davidia Lind Dance Centre in Brisbane to hone her dance skills and is also part way through a Masters of Public Relations at University of Queensland. She hopes to utilize this degree in relation to theatre and events.

"Basically I want to do a bit of everything and just be involved in theatre in every way possible," she explained.

"My degree [at CQUniversity] was fantastic preparation for the industry. It gave me a great understanding of working in a professional environment, which has made the transition into the things I do much easier that it could have been."
