Graduation for first batch of home-grown Sunshine Coast teachers

The first batch of teachers from Central Queensland University’s Noosa Hub will graduate this Saturday (1.30pm, June 19) during a ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Coolum.

These 31 pioneering graduates have fast-tracked their Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) degree with summer subjects to complete a four-year program in three years.

CQU Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Jim Mienczakowski, who helped establish the BLM at Noosa Hub, said it was fitting that the graduation would be one of the last official functions for Vice-Chancellor Professor Glenice Hancock, who retires from the University at the end of July.

Professor Mienczakowski said the Vice-Chancellor had been a champion for offering of learning management on the Sunshine Coast, due to the strong unmet demand. Since then, demand for places in the program has continued to outstrip supply.

Professor Mienczakowski also thanked the Sunshine Coast community and Noosa Shire for backing CQU’s efforts at its Noosa Hub.

Noosa Hub is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Noosa Shire Council and CQU. Cr Lew Brennan (NSC) has been instrumental in its operations.

A total of 38 CQU graduates will attend Saturday’s ceremony. The guest speaker will be Ms Catherine O’Sullivan (Executive Director Schools, Toowoomba).

This event will be the first ever CQU graduation to be held on the Sunshine Coast. ENDS For details contact CQU Noosa Hub via (07) 5485-2986
