Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

'IRIS' conference promises 'eye-opening' presentations 

CQUniversity's Institute for Resource Industries and Sustainability (IRIS) will stage its second Annual Postgraduate Student Conference on Wednesday December 1 at the Rockhampton campus.

The event will be held in the Harvard Theatre, building 32 G.18, from 9am to 4.30pm.

The conference will showcase research currently being undertaken by IRIS which is of value to local industries and communities, as well as to the broader domestic and international markets.

Presentations will focus on research into environmental management, plant and water science, process engineering and light metals, intelligent and networked systems, railway engineering and business.

Local industry and community members are encouraged to network with the 100 participating students and learn about the research directions and challenges faced by the Institute.

The conference will include 19 student presentations along with guest presentations by General Manager of the Gladstone Power Station Glenn Schumacher and Regional Director of the Department of Primary Industries Paul Walmsley.

A competition will be staged for the best student presentation which will be judged by an industry panel.
