CQUniversity will continue its sponsorship for the nationally renowned Cup on Wheels event hosted by Rockhampton Cycling Club, with the next event scheduled for January 14-15.
The University's partnership with Rockhampton Cycling Club has been strong and multi-faceted, involving sponsorship, research, access to facilities and talent identification (TID). In addition, a number of students, staff members and graduates have been involved with the club and the University is part of the national Elite Athlete Program (which enables athletes to fit their studies around competition commitments).

For example, Human Movements graduate/Exercise and Sport Science lecturer Cameron Jennings has just completed a TID program with assistance from CQUniversity technical officer Greg Capern, who helped with testing, facilities, equipment and expertise.
Cameron is winding down his career as a professional cyclist but continues to focus on the sport's development, with advice from the Australian Sports Commission.
"This TID support from the University will be on going as there will be periodic performance monitoring using the Watt bike over in the Exercise and Sport Science Exercise Physiology lab," he said.
Our sponsorship of the Cup on Wheels underpins the mutually beneficial relationship and allows the University to support healthy activity which is a key research focus and area of need in CQ, in a way that's accessible to a broad cross-section of the community.
The sponsorship also promotes development of the event as a highlight of the cycling calendar and assists in the development of Rockhampton's reputation as a sporting city and the range of leisure options available to locals and visitors.
