Students 'switch on' to energy for the future

High school students involved in a simulated international energy sales pitch will have plenty of technical support, when they take part in a Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) event during the Queensland Resources Expo (QREX) at Rockhampton in July...

Up to 75 of CQUniversity's engineering students will be on hand to play the role of ‘consultants' to the teenage ‘company reps', as they spruik their services. LINK here to a video about Energy for the Future

Participants are coming from as far afield as Emerald, Gladstone and Yeppoon. The event will be held across 2 days of QREX.

One of the event organizers, Dr Col Greensill said that participants would develop their knowledge about ‘Energy for the Future' options available in a variety of international circumstances.

He said they would need to consider environmental impacts, costs, sustainability, energy mix, financial status, climatic conditions, storage capacities and future demands.

"Each group will develop a snapshot of their company details to a number of ‘government representatives' from all over the world - in this case played by industry representatives," Dr Greensill said.

The Energy for the Future workshop is being held on the Wednesday and Thursday (July 22-23) in the James Lawrence Pavilion at QREX.

As well as CQUniversity and QMEA, there's also been involvement by Rockhampton Regional Development Ltd, the Queensland Resources Council and Education Queensland.
