CQU students help under eights celebrate with edible threadibles

CQU Bundaberg Bachelor of Learning Management students will play their part in helping Bundaberg’s youngest to have fun during a week of action packed activity – Under 8s Week.

The week highlights the needs and interests of young children from birth to eight years and who better to increase public awareness than their future teachers.

The students hosted Fun in the Park at Bundaberg’s Alexander Park this morning.

“About 20 students have been planning the event for the past few weeks and as the day approached excitement was building," CQU Bundaberg 3rd year Bachelor of Learning Management student Kathryn Hill said.

“While we learn childhood theory at University and have been involved in classroom activities throughout our study it is a great to go to a different location like Alexander Park for such a popular community event with a wide range of children.”.

Children from about 20 Bundaberg childcare centres and children with their parents were there, as well as local high school students who were helping with the activities.

Activities included face painting, science experiments, kite making, wool wrapping, music, games, and edible threadibles.

"There was also story and drama, with Bundaberg’s very own 'Giggles' play. Children had the chance to make their own musical instrument and join in the music.

“The emergency services were also taking part so that should have put a few smiles on the kids faces. They love to see the police and firemen and hop into the truck.".

The Big Red Bus from the News Mail was present, hosting a free sausage sizzle for the morning.
