Emerald campus offers a head start

Year 11 and 12 students gained a head start to their university studies when they recently participated in the 2003 CQU Uni-Link Program in Emerald.

Uni-Link tutor Kim Cheal said, “Uni-Link is designed to introduce secondary school students to university life and study”.

As an introduction to tertiary studies, the Uni-Link Program covers topics such as orientation to university, learning styles, essay writing, research skills and career options.

Student Jodie Olive said, “Uni-Link provided us with an insight into uni life and also gave us tips which can be useful for our studies this year.

Fellow student Amy Woodham said the program was very informative and taught her the correct way to reference and write essays.

Eleven Emerald-based students have completed the recent five-week Uni-Link program and CQU Emerald will soon run a more intensive workshop format for students from other parts of the district.

Uni-Link workshops will be offered on campus from 9.30am to 3pm on two Saturdays, August 2 and August 9.

Mrs Cheal said, “The workshop format will provide the same opportunity for students from out of town as well as for those who missed out last time to take advantage of this excellent program.
