The Non-Invasive Assessment Group from CQU Plant Sciences Group recently hosted three distinguished guests.
Pictured left is Dr Veronique Bellon-Maurel, an agricultural scientist from Cemagref, France, who is involved in the development of NIR instrumentation.
Pictured middle is Dr Paul Geladi, a world-renowned chemometrician from Umea, Sweden (who will act as host to the next International NIR conference, in 2007).
Pictured right is Dr Gerry Downey from the National Food Centre in Ireland (also past president of the International Council for Near Infrared Spectroscopy).
The trio was surprised by the extent of NIR project development through CQU - with in-line fruit sorting units now operating in Australia, New Zealand, UK, Spain, France and USA, and with the state of the soon-to-be released handheld version.
The visitors presented a series of seminars and interesting discussions for CQU staff and students.
CQU senior research officer Christo Liebenberg said the visitors found time for sight-seeing and were particulary impressed with kangaroos at the Yeppoon Golf Course.
