No jetlag for Aussie presenting at global conference

Jetlag won’t be an issue when Australian IT network engineer Jason Bell presents at the Super Computing Global Conference this week.

The Aussie presenter might be a little bleary eyed, since he is presenting live to the SC Global 2004 conference via AccessGrid technology at 1.30am Queensland time on a Friday morning (Nov 12).

However, he will want to be alert since his presentation from Rockhampton will be seen by thousands of participants at 76 sites in 15 countries on six continents.

Mr Bell, who is an IT honours student and network engineer for Central Queensland University, said the AccessGrid is ideal for live interaction between small groups located in different cities, either within Australia or overseas.

Participants at various points of the Internet grid can use a wall-size screen to access multiple video streams, multiple camera angles, multiple voice inputs, multiple data inputs (eg. electron microscope images).

The technology enables participants to hear and see each other, and to share documents and images, in real time without delays.

SC Global 2004 will highlight the collaborative tools developed in recent years and will provide a venue for sharing of innovative services for human collaboration and interaction.

Mr Bell’s presentation will be about the AccessGrid and its applications across an Australian university.
