Emerald STEPS students ready for uni

More than half of last year’s Emerald STEPS students are celebrating successful entry into CQU 2004 degree programs.

CQU Emerald STEPS coordinator Stephanie Garoni told the Central Queensland News this week that she was delighted eight of the 14 STEPS (Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies) students that graduated in 2003 were offered university places this year.

“STEPS is a preparatory program providing a much needed pathway to higher education for mature age students,” she said.

“Last year’s STEPS students were extremely successful in gaining tertiary placements and in competing against school leavers to receive first preference offers from QTAC.".

Four STEPS students are taking up their offers in the new teaching degree being offered at the CQU Emerald campus in 2004.

One 2003 STEPS student, Ingrid Thwaites-Johnson, said she was looking forward to the challenge of studying the Bachelor of Learning Management full-time.

Mrs Garoni said enrolments for the 2004 STEPS program close today and classes begin on March 8.
