Mackay aims to offer full Engineering degree

In response to community feedback, CQU Mackay has increased the number of programs that can be completed locally by implementing the second year of the Engineering program.
"It's our aim to offer the entire Engineering program on campus so that local students will remain in the Mackay and Whitsunday region, supporting the mining and engineering industries," said Head of Campus, Dr Trevor Davison.
In providing the second year of the Bachelor of Engineering program in Mackay, the number of Engineering students has risen from 25 to 50.
Dr Fae Martin, Engineering Coordinator and lecturer at CQU Mackay is thrilled to see the local students respond favourably to the growth of the program in Mackay.
"We've had excellent response from last year's first-year Engineering students and have experienced very high retention of these students into the second year of the Bachelor of Engineering program," said Dr Martin.
Dr Martin points out further developments to the program whereby the Bachelor of Engineering is now offered in ‘flexi learning' mode.
"Flexi learning allows students to complete the program through a combination of on-line learning and on-campus support. People can use this option to complete the program while being employed," said Dr Martin.
To continue to respond to this community feedback, Dr Davison said that he was currently working closely with other CQU faculties to review additional programs that could be fully completed through CQU Mackay.
