Rocky Relay for Life opens up to public
Published on 20 April, 2009
Rockhampton's Relay for Life organizers are following trends set at national level by opening up the Relay to members of the public who would like to support the event.
Previously, only team members have been encouraged to attend.
All are welcome during the key public activities
This year, members of the public will be encouraged to witness the celebratory start of the event at 3pm on Saturday, May 30, and stay on until completion of the moving ‘lighting of the candles' ceremony at 7.30pm.
For the first time, teams will have the option of running raffles and offering goods and services for sale to raise additional funds for Cancer Council Queensland over the weekend.
There's still time to form a team or to join a team and plenty of existing teams would welcome help with their fundraising events before the weekend.
Relay For Life is open to everyone. It's a festive yet moving event where teams keep a baton moving overnight.
Teams of 10 or more come together from businesses, schools, community groups, friends and families to share this unique experience.
Organisers are also keen to involve cancer survivors in the Survivors Walk and other aspects of the weekend.
You can have some fun while raising funds for cancer research, education and patient support programs.

Relay for Life is sponsored/supported by ABC Radio Capricornia, The Morning Bulletin, Radio SeaFM, community Radio 4YOU and WIN TV.
