Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Researchers set the Agenda 

Central Queensland University researchers will have the opportunity to include their research papers in a mid-year conference on research directions for rural women.

Charles Sturt University’s Centre for Rural Social Research will host a conference titled Setting the Agenda for Rural Women: Research Directions on 16 – 17 July at the university’s Wagga Wagga campus.

The conference will bring together researchers, non-government organisations, extension and community development workers, government policy advisors, politicians and service providers with an interest in gender issues in agriculture, natural resource management and rural community/economic development.

The conference will address rural community development, support for rural women, decision-making and leadership, rural services and information technology, women in agriculture and resource management, and the role of non-government organisations in the rural sector.

Keynote speakers include Dr Sally Shortall (Queens University, Belfast), Associate Professor Margaret Alston (Centre for Rural Social Research, Charles Sturt University), Fiona Haslam-McKenzie (Edith Cowan University), and Cathy McGowan (Chair, Regional Women’s Advisory Council).

Papers are invited for inclusion in the workshop sessions.
