SCINEMA tops science week

The celebration of National Science Week at CQU Mackay culminated in the annual SCINEMA Film Festival, which was held over the weekend.

SCINEMA is run by the National Museum of Australia and CSIRO and has been screened at CQU Mackay for the past two years as part of the National Science Week program.

The increasingly popular science film festival provides the opportunity for the community to learn more about innovation in science and technology through the medium of film.

“We were delighted with the community response to SCINEMA,” said Vivien Clift, co-ordinator of the festival, “all the films were interesting and thought-provoking and provided the basis for much animated discussion among the audience".

Dr Judith Wake and Dr Anthony Wheeler assisted in the running of the festival which screened films across three locations over two days. The films covered many aspects of science and technology, including Marine Life, Environment, Health, Biology, Space, Technology and Development, the Human Body and Landscapes.

“SCINEMA becomes more popular with every year that it runs,” said Vivien, “so we look forward to an even bigger audience next year".
