CQUniversity is a partner in the new SmartWater Research Centre, a collaboration of universities, local government and industry, which was formally opened recently (Nov 27) by Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser.
Mr Fraser said the Centre would help Queensland plan for the future with "world-class research into water safety, water security and water supply".

Smart Water CEO Larry Little said the Centre would form the nerve-centre for water supply research and development in Queensland.
"Researchers will examine, among other things, recycled water, improving water tanks and making use of the massive amounts of water produced in coal seam gas development," he said.
CQUniversity's Professor John Rolfe leads one of the 4 research programs in the SmartWater Research Centre, focusing on economic, social and governance issues relating to water management, particularly in urban areas.
SmartWater is based at Griffith University's Gold Coast campus and other participants include the Queensland Government, University of the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast City Council, International Water Centre, Wide Bay Water Corporation and AquaDiagnostic.
Its research programs encompass alternative water sources, health and environment, water and society and water quality and diagnostics.
Sunwater incorporates Gold Coast City Council's Scientific Services, which currently provides accredited sample collection and testing services and is accredited with the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA)
