Workshops offer tips on making a living out of art

Rockhampton area artists are invited to a series of workshops, offering a pathway towards making a living from their creative talents.

The workshops would suit students, artists, performers and others who wish to use creativity to develop themselves as an entrepreneur.

Participants in the workshops (May 20, 21 and 22) will gain insights from established 'creative entrepreneur' Scott Harrower, from Lismore, who is a professional mosaicist and owner of a unique architectural and decorative design element initiative called shmdesign.

The workshops - ‘From Mind to Market', ‘I think therefore I make', and ‘Stretching the Canvas' - cover a range of areas including niche marketing and product development for artists and creative entrepreneurs; the role of the artist in the creative economy and how to develop creative entrepreneurship.

Participants can choose to attend any or all of the workshops, which will be held at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre, Derby St (main entrance).

These workshops are directly related to the skills and knowledge being developed in the Bachelor of Creative Enterprise (BCE) program at CQU.

This initiative also coincides  with a re-launch of the BCE, which includes creative industry work placements and also incorporates all 8 of the future employability skills recommended in 2006 by the Australian government and employers.

All interested people are welcome at the re-launch, from 5pm-7pm on Sunday May 20 at CQU's Creative Enterprise Centre at 240 Quay Street, which includes the chance to meet visitor Scott Harrower and some of Rockhampton's future creative entrepreneurs from the BCE program.

Details and RSVPs (by May 16) for the re-launch and workshops are via Billie Walker on w.walker@cqu.edu.au

The workshops have received funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund (a partnership between Arts Queensland and Rockhampton City Council)  and are supported by CQU's Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education ,  Rockhampton Regional Development  and RCC Arts Services.
