Aussie on world team developing 'Ergonomics Tick'

Australian academic Yvonne Toft is the Australian representative on an international project team developing criteria for assessing the inclusion of ergonomics into design processes.

In effect, the team aims to develop an 'Ergonomics Tick' for products designed with ergonomics in mind.

It's a serious consideration, as poor design of workplaces and transport systems contributes to worker deaths and injuries.

Ms Toft, of Central Queensland University, is contributing to the Ergonomics Quality in Design (EQUID) project as a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia.

She will travel to Maastricht in the Netherlands in July to attend the 16th World Congress on Ergonomics, as a panel member in the EQUID symposiums.

"EQUID targets the safe design and usability of systems and equipment," she said.

Ms Toft is a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Health & Safety within the School of Health & Human Performance at CQU, and is based at the Rockhampton Campus.
