Understanding the values of saving the environment

How much do you value environmental improvements? That is what a Central Queensland University academic hopes to know after a survey is conducted in Queensland.
CQU’s Centre for Environmental Management’s Dr Jill Windle will begin surveying households door-to-door in the Brisbane, Toowoomba, Mackay and Rockhampton areas on land and water management issues.
Households will be chosen randomly and householders will be asked to complete a survey of questions affecting Queensland as a whole, or questions specific to their region.
“We hope to understand what the general public believe will be the benefits of improving the environment in ways such as improving the condition of our waterways, vegetation and soils,” Dr Windle said.
“We want to know how much people value managing our environment, both in their own region and in Queensland generally.” The survey will be used for future planning of environmental policies.
Surveyors will be dressed in CQU uniform and will hold identification for the security of the householders.
