Air Force Cadet gets a head start in career

An innovative CQUniversity program has helped set a Yeppoon high school student apart from the rest.

St Brendan's student Sean Maroney has recently completed an aviation theory course through the University's Start Uni Now (SUN) program.

The SUN program gives eligible high school students an opportunity to enrol in university courses while they are still at school. Details are available via 13 27 86 or www.cqu.edu.au/sun .

Not only did Sean successfully complete the program, but he received the top grade of High Distinction for the course, proving that age is no barrier for university study.

The 16-year-old Australian Air Force Cadet thoroughly enjoyed the course and has since enrolled in another aviation course through the University.

"The SUN courses have been very enjoyable and interesting and I have learnt a lot," Sean said.

"It is giving me a head start at university, however it is giving me a greater head start and taste of the aviation industry."

Sean is planning to complete the remainder of the aviation theory courses on offer through the SUN program and is expected to receive a diploma in aviation.

As for plans for the future, Sean is keen to enrol in university full-time after completing year 12 and hopes to study a Bachelor of Aviation Technology or a Bachelor of Engineering.

He hopes the degree will set him up for a career in the Air Force.
