Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQU supports winter music 

Central Queensland University was pleased to host and provide scholarships for the inaugural 2006 SunWater and Stanwell Winter Music School, held this week in Rockhampton.

Open to about 200 high school students from all over Queensland, the Winter Music School is a week-long event of intense musical training for high school students conducted by outstanding tutors from around the country under the direction of The Southern Cross Soloists, the Brisbane-based chamber music ensemble.

CQU is providing $3000 in scholarships to attendees of the Winter Music School.

In the following categories: Rural Scholarship, Bassoon Scholarship, Oboe Scholarship, Double Bass Scholarship and Outstanding Musicianship Scholarship.

“CQU, with our programs in Performing Arts and the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, we feel a certain connection – a responsibility as it were – to support the arts and raise awareness in the community of the rewards and experiences young, talented musicians bring to us... how our lives are enriched when we engage with and support individual artists and organisations in our community,” said CQU Vice Chancellor and President, Professor John Rickard.

PhotoID:3182 A full symphony orchestra, symphonic band, chamber and combined choirs, chamber music groups, brass, string and percussion ensembles and intense workshops for voice and keyboard students were just some of the week’s highlights.

Students, who were put through a series of rehearsals and masterclasses , will perform a Finale Concert to showcase their achievements at St Paul’s Cathedral, Rockhampton, Friday night.
