Central Queensland University (CQU) has contributed more than $25,000 to support six Arts projects in Central Queensland that include training for the restoration and exhibition of local Chinese artefacts and the wartime recollections of 15 local military men and women.
The funds, administered through the University’s Regional Centre of the Arts (RCotA), are distributed to successful applicants (project managers) who have a CQU sponsor.
“Another project will lead to the production of Sweet Sounds of Sugar Towns, a CD featuring the soundscapes and stories of the sugar industry in Bundaberg and Mackay. It’s supported by the musical talents of 20-year-old Bundaberg percussionist and composer Dane Costigan with the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music,” explained Kylie White, RCotA Administrator.
Funding has also been provided for Volume 16 of Idiom 23 magazine and the annual Bauhinia Literary Awards.
CQU has been supporting the Arts through RCotA for over a decade, promoting the development of artists and the employment of artist/art workers within the Central Queensland region.
“We have a particular focus on joint University and community activities that support worthwhile artistic endeavours throughout Central Queensland and the University community,” said Ms White.
Individuals and legally constituted organisations may apply for funding.
Over the last five years Regional Centre of the Arts has disbursed over $330,000, supporting more than 50 Arts projects.
