Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Congratulations to CQU video producer Peter Lawrence who won the 'Our People' category of the inaugural Sister City Snapshots 2008 Photo Competition.

He was among winners announced on Friday evening (June 13) at Rockhampton's Walter Reid Cultural Centre.

More than 100 entries were received for the local photo competition with an international flavour. It is aimed at

promoting our Sister City relationship with Ibusuki in Japan.

The winners of the cash prizes are as follows:

"Our People" category (18 and over age group)

1st prize ($150) - Peter Lawrence, "Annie at Yeppoon Foreshore"

2nd prize ($100) - Anna Casey, "Backyard Bliss"

3rd prize ($50) - Rebecca O'Grady, "Beach Cricket"

"Our Places" category (18 and over age group)

1st prize ($150) -Chris Niblett, "The Fitzroy"

2nd prize ($100) -Tracey Kluver, "Cattle Camp"

3rd prize ($50) - Rebecca O'Grady, "Wetlands"

As there were not enough entries in the 17 and under age group, an Encouragement Prize of $50 was awarded to two of the entrants, Madison Dyer ("Silly photo when Mum's not watching!") and Eloise O'Maley ("We grow them big in Australia").

All entries will be displayed on Council's website, www.rockhamptonregion.qld.gov.au  and the winning entries and commended entries will be shown in an exhibition at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre until Saturday, July 19.

At the close of the exhibition in Rockhampton, the photographs will then be sent to Ibusuki to be exhibited in Japan at the Ibusuki City Hall and on the Ibusuki website.

The Sister City Snapshots 2008 Photo Exhibition was launched by Mayor of Rockhampton Regional Council, Cr Brad Carter.
