Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Uni appoints Council CEO to DVC role 

CQUniversity has appointed Alastair Dawson as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (University Services) and he's scheduled to start in May...

The CEO of Rockhampton Regional Council and alumnus of CQUniversity will move across to direct and manage the University's infrastructure and administrative operations, which support some 20,000 students and staff.

"I'm enthusiastic about the direction of the University and its increasing level of engagement in the community. I'm excited to be able to play a part in a university that is growing, improving its reputation and operating successfully, here and globally," Mr Dawson said.

"The attraction to me was Vice-Chancellor Bowman's great vision and I am very excited to be part of CQUniversity," the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor added.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Scott Bowman welcomed the appointment, saying "Alastair has a wealth of experience in large, complex, service organisations. As part of the executive management team, he'll work across the University, focusing on our people and improving our systems, ensuring that we're providing the best support we can to our students, other customers and staff".

"Alastair knows regional Queensland. He will help us as we invest in new courses, expand our integrated workplace learning program and further develop our links with Central Queensland industry and businesses so we are more closely aligned with the needs of local employers," added Professor Bowman.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dawson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media from the University of Southern Queensland and a Masters in Business Administration from CQUniversity.

He has managed communications and marketing at Albert Shire Council and Logan City Council and has led the Victorian Farmers Federation and Beaudesert Shire Council. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
