Kath and Kim part of research update
Published on 01 August, 2007
CQU researcher Dr Wendy Davis will discuss 'Television Culture, the Kath and Kim Carnival and the Value of Television Research' in a seminar delivered at CQU Bundaberg and videoconferenced to other campuses.
The seminar will be delivered from 11am-Noon on Friday, August 3.
It draws on research undertaken for Wendy's PhD thesis completed last year.
"The object of research in my thesis was television, and here I will be discussing my analysis of the Australian TV comedy 'Kath and Kim'," Dr Davis says.
"Two main features of Kath and Kim will be explored - its carnivalesque comic style and its status as a mockumentary.
"Together these aspects of the program highlight Kath and Kim's connection to the changes in the television landscape resulting from the phenomenon of reality TV.
"The specific discussion of Kath and Kim will be placed in the context of the discipline of cultural studies. The presentation will also use this discussion of Kath and Kim to address the value of humanities research more generally."
