Graduating CQU Engineers lead the way

CQU Graduating Engineers showcased research projects on sustainable housing designs, traffic congestion, steering systems and more to their peers, industry leaders, family, potential employers and the wider Central Queensland community on Friday at GECON 2004, the graduating engineers conference.

PhotoID:1609More than 30 final year projects of the Bachelor of Engineering students were displayed through a collection of posters accompanied by oral presentations. Some of the projects also on show included the durability of steel fibre, sediment transport and boiler performance.

Although the graduating engineers have studied at Rockhampton in their final years, many of the students began their degrees at CQU Gladstone and Mackay, and many have worked full-time at locations from Cairns to Brisbane as part of the Bachelor of Engineering Co-op program’s six-month work placements.

Student Robert Engwicht (pictured), who has worked at Mica Creek Power Station, made a presentation on "fluid accelerated corrosion in the power industry.".

The conference, open to all members of the community, provided an opportunity to learn more about engineering and witness the high standard of CQU engineering graduates, according to CQU’s Rod Edwards, who directs the Faculty’s Co-op Program..

“This conference is an excellent recruitment opportunity for industry representatives, too,” he said.

The celebrations were to continue Friday with a Conference Dinner at CQU Rockhampton.
