Lord of the Rings visual artists make presentations to CQ community

Mackay is the exclusive host city for the Australian showcase of Digital Magic, a community presentation by digital media artists from Lord of the Rings and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

The presentation at Central Queensland University Mackay on Wednesday, September 1 from 7pm-9pm will be transmitted live to community audiences on video screens located at CQU's Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg campuses. (See registration details below, space is limited.).

PhotoID:1626 The digital media artists are Eric Saindon from Weta Digital and Brett McLennan from ACMI. Eric Saindon is the CG Supervisor at Weta Digital, an Academy Award-winning visual effects company based in Wellington, New Zealand. Weta Digital is best known for its work on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. More recently, the company has delivered shots for I Robot and has commenced work on King Kong.

Brett McLennan is the Screen Education Manager at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne. ACMI is an innovative cultural institution dedicated to the moving image in all its forms: film, television, games, video and digital media.

The event has been made possible by the sponsorship of Arts Queensland and Mackay City Council.

Event organiser, CQU's Dr Steve Pace, said funding was secured through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) to raise public awareness of digital media art forms, careers and educational opportunities within the local community.

"As well as catering for school students and career opportunities, we want to talk to members of the local arts community about how they can acquire new skills in digital media production, how to use their traditional skills in a new media context and forge creative partnerships with CQU," Dr Pace said.
