Fair goes "tutti-frutti" with dance

Move over Carmen Miranda Rockhampton has its own “lady in a tutti-fruitti hat”.

Beverley Prange Academy of Dance student Courtney Law will dazzle audiences at this year’s Multicultural Fair when she performs her version of Carmen Miranda’s South American dance on the main stage on Sunday.

PhotoID:205 Courtney has been training with world-renowned dancers Nicholai von Tonslamann and Tony Widjaya over the past few weeks to prepare herself for this performance.

Dancing the world over for princes and paupers, Nicholai von Tonslamann and Tony Widjaya, will also bring their exuberant dance interpretations to the Fair this Sunday.

“If you experience the music and dance of another culture, you’ll begin to understand it’s people,” says Nicholai, a veteran folk dancer who’s studied and performed for 30 years in Europe, Africa and Asia. If you are sensitive enough, Nicholai believes, it will tell you about yourself, what you believe, and where you come from.

PhotoID:206 Beverley Prange Academy of Dance students will also perform a Russian Dance featuring Russian traditional costumes.

Courtney will perform with Nicholai and Tony at 1.55pm, while the Russian dancers will perform at 3.15pm.

The CQ Multicultural Fair is a joint initiative between CQU and ABC Capricornia, with support from The Morning Bulletin.
