Published on 29 June, 2005
Central Queensland University has been singled out as the most productive and efficient university in Australia, according to a national study reported in today’s ‘The Australian’.
Co-authors Andrew Worthington of the University of Wollongong and Boon Lee of the Queensland University of Technology found productivity and efficiency changes ranged from -1.8% at the University of Canberra to 13%at Central Queensland University.
They said CQU had strong growth in undergraduate and postgraduate completions and made the biggest improvement in productivity because it had started summer sessions and had adopted an "aggressive policy in expanding campuses”.
The economists measured the numbers of full-time academic and administrative staff, non-labour expenditure and student load against degree and doctorate completions, grants and publications to arrive at their findings.
