Uni trials fresh approach for kids at risk of becoming anti-social

CQUniversity will deliver and evaluate a newly developed intervention for children and young people considered at risk for long-term anti-social outcomes.

The program is based on Professor Ronan's extensive international clinical experience and research into the effectiveness of treatments, going beyond short-term fixes to include holistic treatments tailored to circumstances across the whole family context.

"Previous treatments have shown short-term benefits but have not proven to be durable," he said. "Our intention is to draw on international best practice intervention principles and related research."

Children aged 8-15 (and their families) referred to the program will be assessed by Professor Ronan and his team and will additionally work with a trained therapist using this newly developed approach. Outcomes will be evaluated through a randomized controlled trial.

Funding from Queensland's Department of Communities has been confirmed to enable the project to proceed in its first year.
