CQUni opens doors to distance education in far north Queensland

CQUniversity Cairns will cement its presence in the far north region when it invites members of the public to an Open Day at the new Cairns Distance Education Study Centre on Tuesday, August 28.

Members of the Cairns Taipans basketball team will be special guests on the day to take part in some friendly hoop shooting competitions, thanks to a new partnership forged with CQUniversity earlier this year.

There will be a free barbecue sausage sizzle for those who attend, along with a competition to win tickets for seven friends for the CQUniversity Corporate Box at a Cairns Taipans home game.

Program advisors and student ambassadors will also be available on the day to answer any questions about studying at CQUniversity.

CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Scott Bowman said he was looking forward to meeting current and future students as the University rolls out a physical presence in far north Queensland.

"We are really excited about providing our current cohort of around 350 students with a place to study, seek support and to use the facilities on offer at the centre," Professor Bowman said.

Professor Bowman said it was perfect timing to host an Open Day so that the public can see for themselves the benefits of studying at CQUniversity.

"The Open Day will give current distance education students the opportunity to meet with staff members and become familiar with their new centre, as well as provide an opportunity for prospective students and the general public to discover CQUniversity and the large range of programs on offer," Professor Bowman said.

Senior Marketing and Engagement Officer Jodie Savina, who is based at the study centre, said she was surprised with the amount of enquiries already received since CQUniversity established a physical presence at 36 Florence Street.

The event will be held on Tuesday, August 28 from 3pm to 6pm at 36 Florence Street, with all members of the public welcome.
