CQUniversity Rockhampton's Science Experience for Year 9 and 10 students focused on fun and hands-on activities this week (June 28-30).
Students had the chance to get up close to the action with horticultural projects and investigated some often overlooked animals in our ecosystems.
Mt Morgan State High School student Mercury Mowen and Gladstone State High School students Renee Scott and Chantelle Giles enjoy making a DC motor during CQUniversity's Science Experience. They also viewed a movie provided by the Sciema Film Festival before doing some DC motor building. A field trip to the Rockhampton Zoo was also on the agenda where students saw chimpanzees, koals and wombats.
An introduction to emergency procedures such as airway management and defibrillation gave the students an insight into the life of a paramedic, while 'hospital bugs' was the focus of a nursing session where students took part in a handwashing exercise.
Science Experience coordinator Emily Franke said Science Experience was an exciting opportunity for year 9 and 10 students to learn more about science-based careers through fun, hands-on experiences.
The Science Experience is an initiative founded by The Science Schools Foundation, with the support of Rotary clubs around Australia, the Australian Science Teachers Association and the Young Scientists of Australia.
