Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Forum aims to prevent Indigenous family violence 

Speakers and participants will converge on Mackay's Entertainment Centre in May (11-13) for the 6th Annual Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum.

The Forum is being conducted by the Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research, which is based on our Mackay Campus.

This event is convened each year by the Centre, in conjunction with its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reference Group. Details are available via http://www.noviolence.com.au/ .

Speakers this year will include: Professor Chris Cunneen, NewSouth Global Chair in Criminology, UNSW; Kerrie Tim, Indigenous Leadership and Engagement, Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs; June Oscar, Fitzroy Crossing; and Pat Anderson, Chair Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health and co-author of the Little Children are Sacred Report. Professor Steve Larkin, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Indigenous Leadership, Charles Darwin University will speak at the Forum Dinner.

This year's Forum offers an optional third day which includes workshops by the Help Ease Life's Parenting Pressure (H.E.L.P.P.) Program team and Red Dust Healing presenters, Randal Ross and Tom Powell.

This year's Forum - The Big Picture - Putting the Pieces Together - will have a strong focus on healing, leadership and community information sharing.

It provides an opportunity for Indigenous people to come together to network and celebrate the good work that is being done in their communities to end family violence.
