Medical practitioners, sports scientists, coaches, trainers, students and athletes are expected to gather from throughout Central Queensland on July 17-18 this year.
They have been invited to attend the second Central Queensland Sports Medicine and Sports Science Conference and an associated Level 2 Sports Trainer Course which starts a day earlier.
Medical professionals can gain professional development (CME) points and sports coaches and sports trainers can gain re-accreditation points by attending this conference, due to be held at Central Queensland University Rockhampton.
The conference is being organised by CQU's School of Health & Human Performance, Sports Medicine Australia (Central Queensland) and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Rockhampton Hospital.
Guest speakers will include sport scientist Dr Donna O'Connor, a former conditioner for the North Queensland Cowboys and Australian touch teams and a current conditioner for the Australian Opals Women's Basketball team.
Other guest speakers will be Dr Brendan Burkett, a sport scientist and former captain of the Australian Paralympic team, and Dr June Canavan, a Queensland Academy of Sport physician and leader in women's sport issues.
Organiser Dr Peter Reaburn, from CQU Health & Human Performance, said he expected plenty of interest in the conference in the lead-up to the Athens OIympics, as sports science and sports medicine would be in the limelight.
