Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQU graduates still ahead of national rates for jobs and dollars 

Central Queensland University graduates are still ahead of national rates for getting jobs and securing salaries, according to figures being released by Graduate Careers Australia this week.

That is according to the GCA's 'Grads, Jobs and Dollars, 2005' report. For those Australian bachelor degree graduates available for full-time work, 90.9% of CQU graduates were working full-time, compared with 80.9% across Australia.

In some fields, including building and other engineering, 100% of CQU graduates wanting full-time work were working full-time, while in other fields (such as nursing with 98.8%, psychology with 91.7%, social work with 93.8%, accounting with 89.7%, education with 93.9% and computer science with 85.9%), the majority of CQU graduates wanting to work full-time were in full-time work.

CQU's first-degree Australian graduates in their first full-time job had a median starting salary of $43,000, compared to a national median of $40,000.
