CQ region the winner as Uni backs 'land, hopes and glory'

Central Queensland will be the winner as CQUniversity announces scholarships backing students on the land affected by drought, those with hopes of success from a low socio-economic background and those who have covered themselves with glory too.

The University is offering up to 100 accommodation scholarships in 2010, for approved commencing students from a low socio-economic background.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman said this is a great opportunity for the University to acknowledge the talent that we have here in Central Queensland.

"These scholarships will give people the chance to come and study and live on campus and get a real university experience," Professor Bowman said.

The scholarships provide for full board (room and meals) at the Capricornia College Rockhampton. They are available for the first year of study of an undergraduate program, with some available for the duration of an undergraduate program.

The University is also offering 'drought assistance scholarships' to help regional families and students who have experienced financial hardship caused by drought to gain access and succeed at university. These scholarships are valued at $5000 for the first year of study for those commencing an undergraduate program at CQUniversity.

In breaking news, CQUniversity has approved the concept of scholarships to relieve the HECS-HELP burden for OP1 students who choose to study full-time on campus in the Central Queensland region. LINK to Math-loving Danielle finds OP1 adds up to reward

This initiative will not only reward excellence but also recognises that high-achievers who study locally are more likely to remain to work in their home region, thus boosting the talent pool for Central Queensland.
