CQU nominees encouraged for Smart Women - Smart State Award

CQU's female staff and students are encouraged to nominate (or to be nominated) for the Smart Women - Smart State Award, which will recognise women who shine in science, engineering and ICT.
The Queensland Government’s Office for Women invites nominations for the Smart Women – Smart State Awards 2006 before August 4 this year.
The Awards recognise excellence in the traditionally male-dominated areas of science, engineering, and information and communication technology (ICT). They help to inspire women to pursue careers in these vital industries, and provide role models for girls who might otherwise think that such careers are for men only.
Prize money of $22,000 is offered across the 8 award categories, which include categories for secondary and tertiary female students; as well as for women achieving in business, community and public sector work in the science, engineering and ICT industries.
For some of last year’s Award winners, the cash prize was just a bonus on top of the other opportunities that arose. For example, the Awards’ networking and publicity opportunities led to further opportunities to work overseas and to sit on high profile industry committees. The win also helped with accessing other grants and linking with new project partners.
The 2006 winners that are helping to build a bright future for Queensland will be recognised at the gala awards ceremony, to be held at Parliament House in September.
