Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Horsley brings tomes home for Noosa nursing students 

Nursing and medical textbooks from the Australian Awards for Excellence in Educational Publishing in 2009 are being donated to nursing staff and students at CQUniversity Noosa. 

Dr Mike Horsley from the CQUniversity Education staff at Noosa, is also Chief Judge of the Australian Awards in Excellence in Educational Publishing, which he manages in partnership with the Australian Publishers Association.

Each year, Dr Horsley receives over 400 new titles that are entered into the awards.

A donation of 50 new nursing and medical titles worth approximately $4000 from the national awards will be used to support the advancement of teaching and learning at Noosa, where Nursing is offered in flexible delivery mode.

Textbooks and educational media donated from the Australian Awards will support teaching and learning in Nursing at Noosa in the following ways:

- Support partnerships between CQUniversity's teaching hospitals and the Nursing program at Noosa. A number of critical and cutting-edge titles will be donated to further strengthen the partnerships between hospitals and the Noosa teaching staff and programs.

- Support teaching and learning in Nursing at Noosa. A number of reference titles will be retained at the Noosa campus to provide students with reference materials during flex nursing sessions.

- Support isolated and remote flex Nursing students. A number of the titles will be provided to isolated and remote flex nursing students to support their learning.

- Prizes for high-achieving Nursing students. A number of titles will be distributed as prizes to award-winning Nursing students at graduations and special award ceremonies.

Dr Horsley, with Dr Helen Huntly and Professor Bruce Knight, is currently conducting a study of the use of teaching and learning resources in 12 university courses, funded by the Australian Publishers Association.
