Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Researchers make an 'impact' at international conference

CQUniversity research student Ricardo Santa and Management and Information Systems lecturer Mario Ferrer were awarded with the Industry Impact Award at the 9th International CINet (Continuous Innovation Network) conference held in Spain recently.

The winning paper titled 'The Role of Cross-Functional Teams on the Alignment Between Technological Innovation Effectiveness and Operational Effectiveness' was chosen by a European industry panel for its relevance to industry.

The article, which will also be published in the International Journal of Technology Management, is part of Ricardo's Doctor of Business Research thesis and has been co-written by Claudine Soosay with the cooperation of his supervisors Mario Ferrer, Professor Phil Bretherton and Professor Paul Hyland.

The second paper presented by Mario and Ricardo titled 'Developing Capabilities for Innovation in Supply Chain Relationships' was selected as one of the best 5 papers of the conference and also won a place for publication in the  International Journal of Technology Management. This article is based on Mario's doctoral thesis.

Due to their outstanding work, Mario and Ricardo have also been nominated to be part of the first committee for Continuous Innovation Young Academics (CIYA).

This committee, comprised of a total of 7 members from the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway, along with Ricardo and Mario, will develop research and interchange data for future publications.

The committee is also responsible for the review of journals among other academic and research activities.

Ricardo is working with CQUniversity's Division of Facilities Management in Rockhampton, where he is applying his research model to improve utilisation of the University's building management systems.
