Career Match program delivered in western Queensland

CQUniversity Widening Participation Officer Stacey Hixon recently travelled to Aramac and Barcaldine in western Queensland to deliver a 'Career Match' program to Year 9 students.

Five students at Aramac State School and 14 students at Barcaldine State School explored their individual career match profiles and discussed what their 'styles' meant.

Students were given the opportunity to research the example careers listed in their career match profiles. They also watched five short videos based around five key career messages and participated in activities based around those messages.

All students really enjoyed the program and loved playing the Careers Pictionary game.

The CQUniversity Widening Participation team has been engaging students in remote locations such as Aramac, Barcaldine, Winton and Longreach since 2011. Students and teachers are very responsive towards Engage Education programs, as CQUniversity is the primary provider of higher education awareness activities providing regular face-to-face contact with students.

On average, Stacey Hixon travels to schools in Alpha, Springsure, Barcaldine, Aramac, Longreach, Winton, Blackall and Tambo approximately once a month, not only to raise aspirations of school students towards higher education, but also to engage with members of the wider community.
