Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Dean's guitar concert provides outlet for CQ Strings 

A guitar concert by new Dean Matthew Marshall had the bonus of providing an outlet for the newly-formed CQ Strings, a talented group of musicians from Rockhampton Region.

Matthew is an internationally acclaimed guitarist who has arrived at CQUniversity as Dean of the School of Creative and Performing Arts.

Matthew joined ABC Radio's Jacquie Mackay for a chat about his decision to join CQUniversity and treated audiences with an on-air performance. You can hear the interview here.

Though based at Mackay Campus, he performed a String Serenade concert at Rockhampton's Walter Reid Cultural Centre, accompanied by CQ Strings.

"CQUniversity hopes to build a greater awareness of the arts within the University and in the communities it serves," Matthew said.

"We are striving to build relationships with the community and are eager to work on collaborative events in the arts sector."

CQ Strings' membership includes CQUniversity staff member Dr Andrew Fenning, Masters in Applied Science student Yvette Fenning and undergraduate Physics student Kate Henkel.
